The Honest Beginning

Hello World!  My goal for this blog is to honestly journal my journey to Minimalism.  Many people may laugh because I am not a naturally neat and organized person – I am a CREATIVE  and SENSITIVE person and this naturally leads to the accumulation of STUFF like photos, books, arts and crafts supplies and the cute things my kids make in school.  I even recently asked my daughter to make me something in her art at school.  I am not sure if this is going to work and I am pretty SCARED of failure.  However,  I also really like clean,  flat surfaces and they way I feel when I go on vacation, walk into the resort and it is so clean and uncluttered.

This is not really a family decision.     I forgot to say that I have 5 children, some are in college but three still live at home and the college students come home with their stuff (which I am thankful for but I wish there was more room for them).  We live in a 2000 sq. ft. home with 3 bedrooms so it is a tight squeeze for 7 people.   This is just my decision and I am hoping my family will “love it so much they just jump on board!”

We will see!  That is what this is all about.  It is going to be hard for me to get rid of my things and this is an outlet for me to “work through it.”  I hope this might be a help to others who want to minimize their stuff but don’t because it seems overwhelming.  Almost every decision has the potential to be difficult.  I want to celebrate my victories and my baby steps and hopefully that will lead to giant leaps.  I have read that getting rid of stuff is addictive.  I hope so!

My first step was to clear everything except my coffee pot off the kitchen counter.   This got very positive comments from the family but the key now is to keep it that way!

Can we do it?  Please continue with me on this journey!

Easter
